Our services
IOMA Investment Management specialises in the management of investment portfolios for private clients and their professional advisers. We structure portfolios to meet individual client objectives in a personalised and cost effective manner. Our independence means that we are entirely objective in terms of stock selection but we combine this objectivity with a structured and disciplined investment approach.
We hold the widest possible class of investment business license to enable us to manage discretionary portfolios and handle client assets. Securities are held in a segregated clients' account with our approved global custody bank whilst cash balances are actively managed to ensure that our clients receive competitive rates of interest at all times.
Investment Process
- Potential clients are initially invited to ask us to construct a suggested portfolio on their behalf. This is usually a detailed but vital process. From information about a client's circumstances and aspirations, we can demonstrate how we would structure a portfolio to match individual investment parameters. This gives all parties the opportunity to make adjustments at a preliminary stage, before real money changes hands.
- In our experience, few client portfolios fit neatly into any one category. Many strategies evolve over time once initial investment parameters have been established. Formal portfolio reviews, which we carry out at least every three months, are essential to ensure that the portfolio structure continues to meet client objectives which can change several times over the lifetime of the portfolio.
- Day to day investment decisions for our clients follow a disciplined investment approach. We begin the process from the top down, creating a balance of cash, bonds, equities and other asset classes based on current market conditions. Once this balance has been established, we then select suitable securities to meet predetermined investment objectives.
Reporting & Administration
It is essential for accurate information to be made available to our clients in a timely and transparent manner. As well as a comprehensive portfolio valuation, our reporting packages include details of all cash movements relating to the management of the portfolio. We also provide schedules of income and capital gains as well as annual tax packages to suit various jurisdictions. Valuations can be sent out in either hard copy or in electronic form and are available for review online.
We are acutely aware of how a top heavy fee structure can erode investment performance over time. Whilst we believe that our own investment management fee structure is highly competitive, we also place great emphasis on keeping the overall cost of managing client portfolios including dealing and safekeeping fees (the ‘total expense ratio') to an acceptable level.
The total expense ratio of running a portfolio escalates when using collective investment schemes. In some circumstances, this is unavoidable. Collective investment schemes allow exposure to certain markets or sectors which may otherwise be difficult to capture without increasing portfolio volatility to high levels. For the most part, we prefer to use individual securities when structuring portfolios and for this reason we recommend a starting minimum of £150,000 for individually managed accounts.
